I help publishing teams run journals well, and help Latin American research reach further.
Twenty-plus years running international journal portfolios, from society partnerships and profit and loss to open access transitions and research integrity. Now I share that experience directly: coaching the people who run journals, leading projects, and teaching.
I work in English and Spanish. Trabajo en inglés y en español.

Coaching and team development
One-to-one and team coaching for people moving from editorial work into the business of journals: reading a P&L, judging portfolio health, managing partners, and leading editors through change.
Interim and project leadership
An experienced pair of hands for a defined job: an open access transition, a society contract renewal or tender, a portfolio review, or a subject plan.
Courses and workshops
The Business of Running Journals: six practical sessions on money, portfolio health, partnerships, open access, integrity and people. Available as a one-day workshop, an online cohort or an in-house version, with a Latin American edition in Spanish.
Latin America
I spend part of each year in Santiago de Chile and work across the region. I know how international publishing works from the inside, and I want Latin American journals and researchers to get more from it on their own terms, including the region's strong tradition of fee-free (Diamond) open access through SciELO, Redalyc and AmeliCA.
I also connect Latin American colleagues with the European bodies shaping open research, and help each side understand the other.
Editorial Office Survey
A short, confidential check-in for editorial teams (eight to ten minutes) on submissions, peer review, integrity, production and AI. Answers stay confidential and shape any follow-up conversation.
Journal Health Diagnostic
A scored review of governance, ethics, metadata, discoverability and production, delivered in English and Spanish, with a realistic, prioritised plan rather than a generic checklist.
Teaching and speaking
I have taught researchers how to publish successfully since 2014, at universities and national events in Europe and Latin America.
- 2014Spain: author seminars at the universities of León (streamed to four further campuses) and Valladolid
- 2015Brazil: workshops in Campinas, São Paulo and Manaus
- 2015Mexico: Entre Pares, the national publishing seminar, Mérida, to around 500 researchers; and in Mexico City, at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM)
- 2014–15Chile: workshops in Santiago at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Universidad de Chile and Universidad Andrés Bello, and for CONICYT (now ANID)
- 2016Spain: Universidad de Granada
- 2026Now: workshops, guest lectures and courses for researchers and journal teams, in English or Spanish
Background
Most of my career has been inside international publishing, at Wiley, Blackwell and Elsevier. I have owned journal budgets, negotiated with learned societies, coordinated a society's inclusion in an AI content-licensing partnership, and built and led editorial teams. I trained as a chemist at the University of Warwick.
